Blackout Hits Luzon Due to Typhoon Basyang

With the recent typhoon / storm Basyang, Luzon, including cosmopolitan Metro Manila, experienced a wide area blackout.
With massive winds and destruction brought about by typhoon Basyang, most of the Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) power lines were not able to hold.

Even National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) are working to power-up their substations in Metro Manila such as Araneta, Duhat, Balintawak, and Sucat.

Days before Basyang hit the Philippines, locals were already worried of a typhoon Ondoy repeat; a strong typhoon which sunk Manila late last year. It turned out not to be as wet and rain-filled as Ondoy, but its strong winds was enough to cripple the power grid infrasture of Metro Manila and most of Luzon.

Basyang has left the country as of this writing but some areas of Luzon including Metro Manila have yet to have their electric power restored. Even for those already with power, news of scheduled rotational brownouts for the coming days are circulating.
