Olay Total Effects Celebrates 10 Years in SE Asia

“Forever Olay” is the theme of Olay Philippines' recent celebration of its many years in the skin care industry at the Manila Peninsula.

Guests were given a chance to have a more intimate look at the iconic skin care brand with focus on youthful skin and their love for Olay which remained unchanged through the years.

Birth

The story of Olay began in the early 1950s when a South African chemist named Graham Wulff envisioned creating the perfect cream that women like his wife Dinah (and her skin) could truly love.

At that time, women had to use thick and greasy skin creams packed in shoe-polish style tins.
Olay Total Effects Product Line
Learning from his wife, Graham Wulff set about creating a new facial moisturizer that could be quickly absorbed into the skin leading to the legendary Oil of Olay Beauty Fluid.

Discovering most women were concerned about fine lines and wrinkles, blotches and age spots, rough skin texture, uneven skin tone, skin dryness, loss of radiance and enlarged pores - Olay created Total Effects. It was designed to help fight seven signs of skin ageing with a single product. The iconic black-and-gold bottle was first launched in the South East Asia region in 2000, entered the Philippines in 2006, and later went on to provide an extensive skincare line-up that would form the flagship boutique of Olay.

Growth
VitaNiacin is Total Effects' "unique complex of powerful anti-ageing ingredients comprising Niacinamide (Vitamin B3), anti-oxidants (Vitamins E and C) and Panthenol (Vitamin B5), which provide multiple anti-ageing benefits...."

Changing Lives

Miriam Quiambao, Daphne Oseña-Paez, Ines Delgado-Prieto and Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo were the symbolic faces which represented the brand in the past years. And in the same way for many Filipina women in cosmopolitan Manila, their skin remained youthful as ever with “Forever Olay”.

Is Phiten Just A Fad?

Originally from Japan, Phiten was brought to the Philippines by a local distribution company called SEEMI back in 2007.

At first, yes, I thought it was just a passing fad. They looked like fashionable plactic accessories packaged in an expensive imported brand; fashionable nonetheless. :)
Phiten Products
Three years later, Phiten is still very much in the  Philippine market and has expanded since then from the initial 5 stores to 41 retail outlets today. It was then mainly sold in sports shops and most badminton courts during the badminton sports frenzy of the same years. It is only early this year when Phiten started reatailing independently inside popular malls.

I recently had the opportunity to take a look at the products more deeply and understand it better. Focusing on lifestyle sports, health and wellness products, Phiten General Manager Mr. Ronaldo Colmenar shared that Phiten (SEEMI) actually assigns trained product specialists on each outlet to address customer concerns and give appropriate demonstrations when necessary.

He also expounded on the technology behind Phiten and what makes it work. He explains that this is possible through Phild Process which is the method of incoroporating nana-particles of Titanium, Gold, and Silver in all the materials used for Phiten products .Body heat in the affected areas rise after exposure or application which relaxes muscles and improve blood circulation.

And to get straight to the point, Colmenar specified Phiten benefits as the following:
  • Helps relieve pain like shoulder stiffness, backpain, muscle pain, improves blood circulation.
  • Helps prevent fatigue and injury by relaxing the muscles and thereby gaining some degree of flexibility.
  • Helps enhance physical abilities like muscle strength and flexibility.
Phiten Accesories
Moreover, they  have a wide range of products aside from the popular bracelets, bands, and necklaces - they have back support pads, tiatanium tapes that works similar to a salonpa, water for external application and even apparel shirts!
Phiten Apparel - Phild Processed with Titanium

From among these uncommon products, I am most interested with the shoe insoles. I used to wear insoles because I walk a lot from home to my work office or school. My curiosity is piqued how much it could make my walking better or more comfortable. :)

Price range vary from the most affordable Rakuwa Nexklace starting at P750 upto the X100 plug model black which is around P13000++.

So is Phiten a fad?

I believe that fads, albeit with awesome marketing strategies, can not last for more than two years and still expand. Consumers will eventually realize in time that what they bought was not able to fulfill its intended promises. This is the phase when a fad will generally slow down in sales and fade into oblivion.

So with Phiten that is in operation for more than three years now and still expanding, a statement is being made here. But this is simply my distant conclusion from an observer's point of view.

I'd like you to join me as I will start to use this bracelet 3-Line 55mm model (foreground of 2nd photo above) and realize firsthand the effectiveness of a Phiten product on the personal level. Stay tuned for my updates on my experience in using Phiten. let's give it a few weeks or so :)

Celebrity Style Awards 2010: Red Carpet Walk

It was definitely a night of style and celebrities at the recently concluded 1st Star Studio Celebrity Style Awards 2010.

Held last October 3, 2010, the red carpet leading to the Grand Ballroom of Dusit Thani in Makati was lined with spectators as they await the celebrities who walked the red-carpet-turned-fashion-runway in their most stylish designer dresses and dapper suits with sparkling jewels.

Kelly Misa
Rajo Laurel
Phoemela Barranda
Top fashion designers, stylists, and who's who in the style and fashion industry filled the hall as well. It was quite interesting as I often overheard interviewers asking the familiar faces whom they were wearing. Most fashion designers would expectedly answer: "I'm wearing myself," referring to their own creative designs. :)

Fashion Find: Tweet No Evil Shirt

I was on an unplanned window shopping yesterday at SM Megamall when a shirt with a tag-line called my attention. An instant fashion find!

Social Media addict that I am, there was no thinking twice in purchasing this shirt.

Color - Blue; Size - Small; Damage - P150 (surprisingly cheap I'm doubting the tag imprint) :)

Tweet No Evil, indeed. But just as it goes with most rules, there is always an exception. :)

ONE Naturales: Nature & Beauty in One

Nature & Beauty in ONE
The ONE Naturales product line was recently launched in Makati with a pool side party, summer music, and attended by beautiful people in cosmopolitan Manila.
Charade Gala
Humble Startup

It all started when Charade Galang formulated beauty soaps several years back and eventually left her day job at a top international fashion retail chain.

As a trained pharmacist, she got into the soap business with quality and price in mind. As a consumer herself, she knows which ingredients work best. Its success prompted her to concentrate more on the business and make it grow bigger as it was picked up by an international retail chain and commissioned to come up with an exclusive brand for them, thus, ONE Naturales for Watsons.

 ONE Naturales

ONE stands for organic, natural and eco-friendly. It consists of personal care and beauty products that offer natural luxury that brings home the experience of nature’s benefits.
“We created the products using the best combinations of naturally sourced ingredients and organic extracts, exudates, purees, and essential oils at high levels,” Galang says.
ONE Naturales’ current product range include body soaps, solid shampoos, moisturizers, skin bar conditioners, body butter, lip butter balms, hair conditioners, and lotion massage bars.

One Body Scrub

With fun names such as Blast From The Past and Extra Virgin, the soaps are meticulously made by hand, while its other products are manufactured using the Good Manufacturing Practices standards.

The Experience

I have personally used their products and the quality is obviously given focused. For a guy whose skin can easily get dry and even courser than the ladies, there's no limiting the products' use exclusively for women. I particularly like their lip butter balms and body butter which really moisturizes the lips and the body, respectively.

I also found an interesting product which is new to my ears - the solid shampoos. I have seen the product and it's just like an ordinary bar of soap, but I guess it's for the hair. Just out of curiosity, I'll be trying that one next. :)

Natural and Organic

Launch Party Celebration & Music
“The main difference of ONE Naturales is its formula, which is fortified by the use of high amounts of carefully selected high value natural and organic ingredients,” Galang explains. “Natural ingredients result to natural beauty. Exposing our skin to products that have conscious efforts to reduce chemical agents will eventually retard skin aging, discoloration, and stress-related problems.” she says.
And as expected, ONE Naturales is packaged in environmental-friendly materials. They come in recyclable tins and recycled paper, and don’t use plastic.

2011

Come  2011, ONE Naturales will be introducing cosmetic products and advance skin care systems.
“We will be in the global stores of Watsons within 2011 and we hope to be the brand of choice of people who are conscious of what they use on their body and how it contributes to the care of our planet,” Galang concludes.
Host Bianca Valerio
I'd like to congratulate ONE Naturales for braving a market already-filled with products that claim to be made from natural ingredients and riding on the "I love Earth" bandwagon.

In the end, the product that remains true to its promise will remain. And with the quality of ONE Naturales, there's no stopping Charade in capturing the natural beauty retail market segment. :)

September 10 Philippine Holiday for Ramadan

Septemebr 9 Holiday
It's a non-working Philippine holiday on  September 10 as the Palace declares it to give way for the festivities for Ramadan / Eid ul Fit’r or the end of the holy month of fasting by the Muslims.

Proclamation 26 was recently signed by the president Benigno Aquino III declaring September 10 as a non-working holiday. This is to enable our Muslim brothers to celebrate the 9th month of the Islamic calendar. It symbolizes purification after completing the fasting month of Ramadan.

For the non-Muslims, it would be a three-day long weekend from September 10 (Ramadan non-working holiday) to September 12.
